DONATIONS TO HELP MAKE SCRUB CAPS & HEADBANDS WITH BUTTONS FOR MY LOCAL HEALTHCARE HEROS:
VANCOUVER ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
Everyone right now is being impacted by the global pandemic. Every single person on this planet is experiencing it differently but one thing that every country has in common is that our frontline health care workers are bravely showing up every single day to battle this virus and save lives, communities, and countries. All the while they risk their own safety.
As a small business owner it came as no surprise to me that my income along with many other makers was going to be impacted due to COVID-19 once things started shutting down. My little shop was not immune to the current state of the world.
I have skills that are useful, 2 sewing machines and a wall full of fabric. I wanted to help.
in March 2020 I reached out and was met with an incredible demand from local health care workers for 2 things: scrub caps and headbands with buttons.
Why buttons? The constant changing of masks is tearing their ears apart. They can use the buttons to hold the elastic of the masks and save their ears. Less irritation means they can focus on what's really important; the patients. Less open wounds means less personal risk for infection.
Why scrub caps? Many hospitals are limiting their supplies of PPE to staff. Some currently only get one set of gowns per 12 hour shift. Scrub caps are a small way staff can help protect themselves by avoiding contamination with their hair. Some gear is better than no gear when it comes to extreme times such as now.
Are you wondering how you can help but maybe you don't know where to start? Maybe you don't know how to sew or don't have the proper materials, or maybe you are trying to figure out the "new normal" of the world which is all valid. Maybe I can help you.
If you want to help me make as many scrub caps and headbands as possible here's the best and safest way to do that. Make a donation through this listing to my shop and I will donate a cap or headband directly to where its most needed locally (Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada mainly). I've valued each cap or headband at $10 which will cover any materials, utilities, deliveries and help to cover some of my time spent making these items. You can "purchase" any amount of available caps/headbands if you would like to donate more than $10, just choose your amount of "Scrub Caps/Headbands" from the drop down box and add to cart. 1 Scrub cap/Headband = $10
I will do weekly updates on my Instagram page @napping.wolf with totals of how many I've made each week and where they are going to be donated to for transparency. When I've made and donated all the hats that have been "purchased" through this listing I will update the numbers available again. I'm going to start with 100 donated scrub caps or headbands which I feel is a reasonable number for me to achieve over the next few weeks. Remember, I won't be shipping anything to you. I will give these items directly to my healthcare contact in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.
** Current recipients of our donations **
- Nurses at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and surrounding areas
- Nurses at a Covid-19 testing site in Calgary, AB
- A NICU nurse at Surrey Memorial Hospital
In addition to helping our health care workers I also recognize other people need help too. $2 from every donation will be going to the Samaritan House in Nanaimo (Island Crisis Care Society) to help women and women with children with emergency and transitional housing plus any other support they're able to provide those seeking help during this time. I will make the donation at the end of each month and announce on Instagram how much we've been able to raise each month through this pandemic.
Thank you so much for your time, support and love. We are all in this together.
Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. I'm not responsible for delays due to customs.
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
Due to the uniqueness of these handmade products, unless they arrive damaged or defective, we can not accept exchanges or returns. We ask that you please measure your child’s head before purchasing one of our hats to ensure proper fit. In the rare event of requiring a different size we require the original product to be returned to us in it’s original, unused condition. If the product in question is an upcycled fabric item the buyer must be aware that the original fabric may not be available as our stock is extremely limited when working with upcycled materials. We will have full and open communication with the buyer in cases such as these with guidance for sizing.
Items that are small enough to ship lettermail are free shipping with no tracking or guarantee. Items shipped by lettermail that arrive late, damaged or are lost all together by Canada Post is 100% the buyers responsibility and we will not refund or replace these items. Upgrades to tracked and expedited shipping is available with insurance on lost or damaged items. Shipping times ultimately depend on Canada Post and we can only quote what is available by Canada Post.
Bigger items such as toques with poms are too large to fit lettermail and can only be shipped by parcel with tracking. Parcel shipping is flat rate $10.
Buyers outside of Canada have different shipping options for parcel. Lettermail shipping is NOT available.
